Managing Partner, Dan Shannon, is featured in the Crain’s New York Business “Gotham Gigs” vertical. The series features New Yorkers with unique gigs, exploring what makes their career path unique and the events that led them there. As the architect who “breathes new life into the city's aging buildings”, Dan discussed his big break repositioning 540 Madison Avenue for Harry Macklowe in 1999, which led to work on the Apple Cube at the GM Building, and at least 25 other projects. “Architecture is a form of expression, and we speak the same language,” Macklowe said. “Dan’s always listening, which is good for anybody and especially an architect.”
His work with Macklowe caught the attention of other big developers like Vornado Realty Trust, who commissioned him to reposition PENN 1 and PENN 2, becoming the catalyst for the larger PENN DISTRICT development. This summer, he’s watched with great delight as Knicks fans congregate outside Madison Square Garden for viewing parties at Plaza 33. “It was the best,” he said, “because it had never been a public space before.”
