Managing Partner, Dan Shannon, Speaks About Revitalizing Eero Saarinen’s Black Rock

Managing Partner, Dan Shannon, spoke about revitalizing Eero Saarinen’s Black Rock building at 51W52 as part of the building’s comprehensive re-branding initiative led by Viti Design Studio.

In the interview, Dan highlights the iconic nature of the building and the prolific career of Eero Saarinen. As the only skyscraper designed by the world-renowned architect, 51W52 is a singular icon of classic New York architecture and was home to CBS for over 55 years. Its dark granite facade rises like a great rock from the surrounding plaza, making a lasting impression on the skyline.

The revitalization of 51W52 preserves much of Saarinen’s influence while creating a forward-thinking workplace for today’s employees. In partnership with Vocon, MdeAS restored the original plaza and lobby while adding modern elements like a sparkling light installation, floating stair, reflecting pool, and lower level lounge.
