Nasha Wambui Gitau: Building Bridges Between Heritage, Humanity, and the Future of Design

When Nasha Wambui Gitau speaks about architecture, her words move effortlessly between art, science, and emotion. To her, architecture is not only about structures - it is about people, culture, and the quiet dialogue between past and future. From her roots in Nairobi to her career in New York, Nasha Wambui Gitau has built a journey defined by her curiosity, resilience, and purpose.

In 2023, Nasha Wambui Gitau joined MdeAS Architects, an award-winning New York firm. One of her first major contributions was on a Midtown Manhattan amenity project that transformed unused office spaces into vibrant communal areas. “It moved fast,” she recalls. “I was involved from concept through completion, designing modular furniture and coordinating consultants.”

Another key project she worked on - the first commercial-to-residential conversion on Billionaires’ Row - involved navigating the complexities of landmark preservation. Her expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM) proved invaluable in integrating cutting-edge digital tools with historic architectural constraints. “The challenge is to modernize while preserving,” she explains. “We make historical buildings functional for today while honoring their past. I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for what it means to build with memory.”
